Saponaria ocymoides (Soapwort)

Thumbnail Photo

Excellent ground-hugging cover for rock gardens. Tiny leaves and small pink flowers look almost fragile. Don't confuse with it's cousin Saponaria officinalis, which bounces all over the garden. Saponaria ocymoides does not bounce. It forms a mat that blossoms into a deep pink pillow of bloom.

Combine with Dodecatheon, Iris setosa, Phlox 'Candy Stripes'.
