Astrantia major 'Abbey Road' (Masterwort)

Thumbnail Photo

A brand new Astrantia that contradicts the old pale and straw-like summer flower descriptions. This beauty combines a gothic appearance -- black stems and vivid purple flowers. The star-shaped leaves look tattooed from a distance but it is only the color shading from light to very dark green. The original grower claims vase life of 2 weeks. Recently 123,000 stems were sold at the Dutch Flora Holland Auction. And if that isn't enough, this Astrantia has a nice sweet fragrance. A real winner! A little moisture please. Combine with Filipendula ?Nana?.
