Chasmanthium brachytricha (Korean Feather Reed Grass)

Thumbnail Photo

Magnify

Although classified as a warm season grass, this extremely tough, undemanding grass has proven successful in Alaskan gardens. It is advertised to bloom in part shade. Warm, rosy maroon fluffy bottlebrush plumes age to an elegant silver green. Grasses bring bold, erect lines to any garden. Great as specimen or combined with bergenia, ligularia, lilies. The slightest wind provides a wonderful emotion. Native to moist woodlands but, in Alaska we recommend full sun for color saturation.

Winter snow on the spikelets is very attractive.
