Rodgersia podophylla ''Rotlaub' (redleaf)' ()

Thumbnail Photo

Magnify

Rotlaub' means 'Red Leaf' This is an extremely colorful variety. The glossy foliage is a distinctive coppery-red to deep bronze and holds its color much better in the summer than other varieties. The jagged edged leaves mature to a spectacular deep red-bronze in late summer providing a backdrop for the dramatic 3 to 5 foot plumes of creamy-white flowers. Since they require consistent moisture, they can also be used in bog and water gardens. A wonderful woodland plant that prefers shade and does well planted close to trees or shrubs in cool soil. Makes a great planting companion for the variegated round leaf foliage of many Hostas.
