Delicate, creamy-white, fragrant, bell-shaped flowers dangle from an arching stem. Very unusual form. The arching burgundy stems carry alternate, lance shaped, green leaves with white margins. The twin white bells dangle in pairs and have a delicate lily-like fragrance. A creeper but not invasive. Found in woodlands. As with hosta, this woodland plant will probably do better with some sun here in Alaska.

Potentilla 'Arc-en-Ciel' ()

Perennial Cinquefoil are mound-forming plants suited to the sunny perennial border. These are cousins to the more familiar shrubby Potentilla. This variety has green strawberry-like leaves, bearing sprays of double button flowers of orange-red with a bronzy center.

Trim off faded bloom stems to encourage more buds to form. Plants may be sheared back after blooming, to rejuvenate the foliage. Division may be done in early spring or in the fall. Cut back to the ground in spring.

Rheum palmatum var. tanguticum (Ornamental Rhubarb)

Thumbnail Photo

Magnify

Stand back when you plant this Rheum! Not for the weak of heart or the small garden. The flower stalks are taller than me and the leaves -- well -- I can remember my kids using these leaves for umbrellas when they were young. Those were imagination days when no electricity, no electricity and long summer days. I may be just a bit prejudice but I love ornamental rhubarb.

The Chinese call this plant Chinese licorice and use it for medicinal purposes for fever, diarrhea, and to reduce dyspepsia.

Sedum 'Firecracker' SUNSPARKLER Series ()

Thumbnail Photo

Magnify

For a rich blanket of color in those hot, sunny areas, try Sedum Firecracker from breeder Chris Hansen who also brought us Dazzleberry and Lime Zinger. This is Chris improvement over his previous red-foliage introduction, Cherry Tart. You will be amazed by the foliage bud count on each dormant plug; it is a very dense growing, well-branched selection that wont split open in summer. It puts on a strong show of burgundy red color all season long, with only the tiniest new leaves emerging mint green. Plant Firecracker en masse in the landscape as a colorful, weed-suppressing ground cover and enjoy its vibrant pink flowers in late summer to early fall as an added bonus.

Keeping up with this years trends, we are proud to introduce a brand new Veronica. This posh new perennial produces a plethora of paintbrush-like, rosy purple flowers on heavily branched scapes from midsummer into late summer. Honeybees, hummingbirds, and butterflies delight in their sweet nectar. Each main flower spike is surrounded by up to a dozen secondary flower spikes, resulting in a prolonged season of bloom. Viola 'Etain' (Violet)

Thumbnail Photo

Magnify

Good in containers. Throats of flowers are purple-yellow and pretty spectacular. May not come back each year, but it's still worth it, as so many of our customers say each year. We typically sell out so early in the season. Combine with Thymus 'Highland Cream', Trollius pumilus, Bergenia 'Solar Flare'.

A rare and elegant viola! This beautiful English hybrid has extra large 1.75 inch wide, pale lemon yellow blossoms with contrasting lavender-purple margins and a delightful fragrance. Though it blooms the heaviest from late spring to early summer, it will continue to send up flowers sporadically throughout the summer and into fall. 'Etain' is a clump-forming type, unlike many other violets which are groundcovers.
